About the CREATIVE ARTS PROGRAM
The Arts Centre Mainstage is a 576-seat proscenium theatre with a fly tower soaring seven stories high. This impressive tower can store even the most complicated scenery for any production, including an acoustical orchestra shell. An adjustable acoustic design permits technicians to alter the acoustics to suit individual performance and educational needs of the Mainstage. Over the past years we've made great improvements to the Arts Centre with help from the Community Facility Enhancement Program, the Community Initiative Program, and our Mainstage has seen a complete renovation. New seats, carpet, main curtain, light system and an incredible sound system have had a positive impact on audience comfort as well as enhancing the performances onstage.
Fully computerized, lighting and sound equipment provide maximum flexibility to meet the needs of students, community users and professional performers.
“Productions at the Alberta High School One Acts Festival will have use of designated systems related to stage, lighting, sound, and rigging. Technicians experienced in the operation of the venue, its systems and equipment will help each school achieve the best production possible, within the allotted parameters.
The depth of stage used can vary from 20’ to almost 50’ and various backdrops are available for use, from velour drapes to scrims and cycloramas. There are a number of fly lines available and arrangements can often be made to hang items, should that be required. The lighting and sound control equipment are fully computerised and any settings saved during Tech Times can be recalled for each production. The sound system will allow for playback from CDs or auxiliary sources such as tablets, smart phones and laptop computers. The Mainstage Auditorium is equipped with a theatrical lighting plot that provides full wash coverage of the entire stage. Special lighting requirements can often be addressed during a production’s Tech Time.”

The Arts Centre complex is the base for Theatre Studies, Music, Motion Picture Arts, and Conservatory Programs. Performing Arts students spend countless hours studying, practicing and honing their skills in this superior facility and it quickly becomes a second home.
The new Library Information Common opened its doors in August 2002. This state-of-the-art facility offers 165 interactive computers with access to library resources, the Internet and productivity software. The Library has areas dedicated to independent and group study, meetings, ad-hoc classes and lecture series.
In addition to research and access to collections and reserves, Performing Arts students often visit the library to make use of the Multimedia Workstations, Viewing & Listening Carrells, Quick Access Workspace, Wireless Laptops, and quiet study space.
An innovative new living and learning environment, CollegeSide opened in 2004. This extended-care housing facility was the result of unique partnership between the David Thompson Health Region, the Bethany Care Society and RDC providing more learning opportunities for our students. The facility also houses a small dance studio, practise areas and other RDC classroom spaces.
