Here's the Festival Package for 2017.
Sadly, we must move the 2017 FESTIVAL DATES to MAY 4, 5 & 6. This is 1 week earlier than our original date . The reason is that the Arts Centre at RDC was double booked on our original date. Luckily this was caught a few days ago and not in a month.
I can assure you all that efforts were made to remedy this situation by RDC. They offered us the option of an alternate venue site off campus for the original date (which only seats 280, so we had to decline) or the use of the Arts Centre for the new dates, one week earlier.
I have been in direct contact with the Executive and Members-at-Large during this time. We had to make some choices rather quickly in terms of how to continue. In the end, we chose to continue the festival in the facility we are accustomed to in terms of tech capabilities, storage, safety, location, etc. rather than move the festival elsewhere in Red Deer and keep the original dates. This decision of May 4, 5, 6 is our best case scenario considering a number of factors.
I realize the impact of this date change is more for certain folks than others. There is the rearranging of schedules, transport, housing, rehearsals, zone festivals, workshop leaders, staffing, etc. We understand the frustration this may cause and hope that the scheduling conflict can be remedied with as much ease as possible.
In addition, I have tried to make personal contact with folks that this impacts more directly, and I will continue to endeavour to problem solve and brainstorm, if folks need help with how to navigate this unfortunate situation.
I ask that we all work together and continue to promote and showcase the incredible student work in this province that we share with each other annually. Let’s think of this as an adventure and move forward!
Marc Halas (BOH manager) and Nashira Dernesch (FOH manager) are making final confirmations on our technical house crew and workshop leaders due to the date change.
Our adjudicators are confirmed!

NEWS from December 2016:
Hello AHSDFA membership,
The executive is pleased to announce the following details about our May 2017 festival. As you are aware we were taking applicants for the positions of BOH & FOH festival managers. We would like to welcome the following folks in these hired positions for the next two years:
Both Nashira and Marc have been active participants within their respective zones and our provincial festival. They both come with vision, expertise and passion for their newly appointed positions. They will be excellent additions to the festival.
In addition, we have hired an ASM, Michael Johnson, to work along with the RDC house staff and Marc Halas (BOH manager). A warm welcome to him as he joins the team this upcoming 2017 festival. You may remember that the ASM role was a trial position last festival when we had alumni students assist in these roles. Michael is a graduate of the RDC Technical Theatre program, bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to our festival.
Thank you to those who applied and showed interest in adding efforts to the AHSDFA. Keep it on your radar!
2 executive positions are open this spring.
Please consider putting your name forward and continuing the momentum of the AHSDFA into the future. The executive folks are more than happy to answer questions and inquiries, if you would like more information. All executive positions are elected at the AGM and are non-paying (volunteer), as mandated via board regulations. Executive positions rotate on a 2 yearbasis and are divided so that there will never be a year where the entire executive is elected at the same time.
Please consider putting your name forward for:
Job descriptions are available if you wish more information detailing time requirements and specific areas to oversee.
Wishing everyone a pleasant holiday season and new year.

The Provincial Festival is a One Act Play Festival that celebrates the great theatre that is happening from around province, in our High Schools - Public, Catholic, Private, and Charter.
In April, schools from around the province participate in their respective ZONE festivals (their local areas), then the representative play(s) bring their production to Red Deer College to showcase their work on the Provincial Festival stage.
Provincial festival is NOT a competition, it is a celebration of outstanding work from all over Alberta!
